State Secretariat of Culture - Timor-Leste

The community of Fohorem welcomed the guests with a ceremony and traditional dances, amongst which was the “Heuk” dance, performed by students of the Pre-Secondary School of Nutetu.
In his opening speech, the State Secretary of Culture mentioned that when promoting Timor-Leste’s culture and its sacred houses, these should be investigated individually. The cultural ceremony that took place in Fohorem has its particular characteristics. The cultural objects deposited in this Sacred House are important material cultural evidence of Timor-Leste’s history. Therefore, it is important that the Fohorem community preserves and prromotes its unique culture, the Sacred House being a meeting point and a place of union between all persons.
